What Is True: An Introduction To Secular Humanism
Overview
Since the dawn of human intelligence, we have wondered about our role in the universe. For thousands of years religion and mythology have provided us with narratives explaining how and why we exist.
Countless religions have come and gone thoughout our history. The disciples of Zeus or the worshipers of Osiris have long gone but other deities have inspired many devoted followers to this day.
But there is another path towards enlightenment, one based on reason and observation rather than faith and superstition. Secular Humanism is a broad term that encompasses the naturalistic view of reality and the application of the scientific method to understand what is true.
In this 40 minute program, some of North America’s leading non-religious thinkers comment on topics ranging from the cosmic, such as the meaning of life and death, the planetary, such as our responsibility towards the environment, and the political, such as the role of religion in modern day conflicts.
What is True provides an alternative way to seek out truth and to live a moral life without a supernatural belief system.
